One of our visits was to the fish hatchery, on yet another sunny day, I don't know if this sort of thing is done in Scotland. They collect the salmon that are returning up river and harvest the eggs and grow them up for about a year and then return them to the river. This year many more fish have returned, which means they are very successful at increasing the numbers. The fish are all marked, by removing a small fin, to indicate they are not wild salmon, as you can't fish for wild salmon. Any excess adult fish are collected by the native Indians and taken to the reservations for smoking or drying and we saw a group doing this.
