May 5th - Agricultural Station, wine and sweets

We did alot on May 5th and I thought it warranted another blog, I wish I knew how to reorder these messages.

We went to the Agricultural Research Station where Michael Weis (Summerland Rotarian) took us around his microscopy unit. This was really interesting. Then we met with Norman Looney who now had an International role promoting Horticulture and he took us around to see the fruit fields, where they do trials and the garden. There's even a picture of him in the Centre with Penelope Keith.
For lunch we went to Local in Summerland, where Christa-Lee (another Summerland Rotarian) gave us a wonderful lunch with wine, red and white, ice wine and sparkling and gave us an incite into the Wineries in British Columbia. This was very interesting as we had seen so many vineyards in our travels.

Next to the restaurant Kathryn showed me a small piece of wetlands that had been preserved, which was full of birds, particularly the red winged black bird.
After lunch we visited Summerland Sweets and sampled syrups and fruit wines. Very nice!
